Chevrolet Colorado Z71 4x4 diesel

With the recent sales momentum of the Toyota Tacoma revised and the new Chevrolet Colorado / GMC Canyon twins, the introduction of GM diesel power for the medium-size segment pill seems a clever play. However, in an integrated full-size pickups around established market, the benefits of this combination are less clear.

Built in Thailand and is available in the 2016 Chevrolet and GMC models, new 2.8-liter turbo four-cylinder Duramax GM is an effective battle horse, but unhurried. Despite its 181 horsepower is less than the 200 of the standard 2.5-liter petrol four, abundant 369 foot-pounds of torque than the optional 3.6-liter V-6 for a total of 100.

This diesel’s attributes don’t come cheap, though, with the Duramax adding $3905 to our test vehicle. It’s only available on crew-cab trucks fitted with the mid-grade LT trim level or higher. With a few extras, our $42,105 as-tested price was about the same as that of a base V-8–powered Silverado 1500 crew-cab 4x4, which is quicker, more capable, and better to drive.
