Says product chief,Chevrolet Camaro ‘will be built’ in right-hand drive if demand is high enough
Muscle car madness could continue in Australia, with a spokesman for
General Motors confirms that asks whether a RHD Chevrolet Camaro might
work.Talking
to CarAdvice 2016 New York Motor Show, Chevrolet Camaro Chief Engineer
Al Oppenheiser said the US company is looking at opportunities
right-hand drive market, which means a Camaro with a badge of Holden
could become a reality. Last year, Stefan Jacoby, executive vice president of General Motors
International Operations, said the Holden V8 car would be launched so
that the brand has an eight-cylinder model available after local
production ends at the end of 2017.Oppenheiser clear that the company was aware of the success of the
Order of the Ford Mustang - sold in Australia until 2017 - and Chevrolet
has to be able to justify the expense of adding a RHD version with
strong sales in the markets concerned.
"If
we think the volume is such that we must drive right, it is an
investment to make for us. If the volume would not support it, you know,
and no one else in Japan would be Australia and the United Kingdom" , Oppenheiser said.
"Is it enough to support it? We are studying this," he said.
"I'm going to say that we are studying our competitors more in Dearborn and what they do? Is it a success for them does not it?
"We know what it takes to do so, but it is clear that the hand drive Cadillacs, so it is impossible. But we have not yet made that decision," he said. "We share major components with the CTS and ATS.
"We could say that we will make a right-hand drive ... But do not make a right-hand drive for the foreseeable future," Oppenheiser said, leaving open to interpretation how long can the foreseeable future be.
"Well, this is what you have to understand: it is an application for everyone who wanted one bought in the first year and sell them in the second year you do not want to do, right???

"It's
like the V8 -. Everyone will buy your first V8, so they want to have
all ready suppliers to pump as much V8 as possible, as they will buy
first and then stabilized - our V6 and 2.0-liter turbocharged take over as volume leader."The
same goes with taking RHD That is, is something that will keep a
certain amount each year? If so, we will," he said, giving the strongest
indication that we could see the Camaro with a badge of Holden ."If
it is something that is a marvel of one year, then left ... We
experimented with LHD in some countries. Especially in the fifth
generation after transformers are out, some countries bought in 1000 and
sold in 1000 in a week. we have sent another 1000 and held for three years."You must ensure that we are in business to make money and if it will be a good business model, we would," he said.
The sports car driving right question was speculation angered the Corvette, Camaro or a sports version of the Opel Insignia would be the car for work. But these new Oppenheiser seems to influence the argument, once again, for the Camaro.
"Our leadership and direction of the company include Chevrolet and made the statements. The President made the statement in the UK last year. This will be a market-driven decision."
